AIR

The combined effects of ambient air pollution and household air pollution are associated with 6.7 million premature deaths annually.

Cooking over an open, indoor fire is how our community prepares meals. Unfortunately, this practice contributes to lung diseases, pneumonia in children, burns, and deforestation. Our community has addressed this issue by building high efficiency cookstoves. The chimney removes smoke from interior living spaces, improving indoor air quality. The heating surface captures heat efficiently, which means that our community spends less time collecting fire wood and more time being productive. SAGE provides the materials for the cookstoves at a discounted price and asks each recipient to help a neighbor construct a cookstove as well.
